Crocasmia is a lovely flower in the Iris family. It is native to South Africa and, like many foreign plants, can become invasive if left untended. I wanted to share my plant's progress this season.
I planted one of these plants in my garden in SE Alaska a few years ago. The first couple of years I only got leaves, but then they started to bloom and spread. They are so vibrant and unusual. I was surprised that a plant native to Africa would do so well in rainy Alaska. We get an average of 140 inches of rain a year and my town (Ketchikan) is located in a temperate rain forest.
